Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary Manchester United manager, is reportedly attempting to persuade Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at the club in private chats, according to the UK Mirror.

United will not participate in the Champions League next season after a 4-0 thrashing at Brighton.

This means that the Red Devils will end with their lowest points total in a Premier League season.

Ronaldo has 24 goals in 34 games this season.

However, the 37-year-old has been chastised for his performances and accused of not doing enough to help United’s attack.

Ronaldo signed a two-year agreement in August, but he has the option to extend it for another year. However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is already thinking about his future.

The Portugal captain and Ferguson have visited at their homes numerous times this season, and despite United’s troubles, the Scot is said to have persuaded his former teammate to see out his contract with the club.
