…Appointments bring number of Permanent Secretaries appointed under his administration to 135

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday swore in six newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and 10 members of two state service commissions, charging them to prioritise accountability, professionalism and effective service delivery.

The appointments bring the total number of Permanent Secretaries appointed since the inception of the Sanwo-Olu administration to 135.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House, Ikeja, also witnessed the inauguration of chairmen and members of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission and the Audit Service Commission.

The six new Permanent Secretaries are Dr Olawale Adegbite, Folashade Thomas-Orogan, Adebayo Haroun, Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose, Olatunbuson Ogunbanwo and Toyin Adekoya.

Members of the Audit Service Commission inaugurated at the ceremony include Arinola Dawodu, Chairman; Bukola Ogunnowo; Omotayo Gbajabiamila-Olamona; Bowale Shosimi; and Sunday Kappo.

The Local Government Service Commission comprises Akeem Bamgbola, Chairman; Adeyinka Durosinmi; Ahmed Seriki; Shamsideen Olaleye; and Folashade Olabanji-Oba.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sanwo-Olu urged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by ensuring that government policies and programmes translated into measurable improvements in the lives of Lagos residents.

The governor stressed that public service leadership must go beyond occupying positions to delivering tangible results, strengthening institutions and addressing the needs of citizens.

“These appointments recognise your experience and service, but they also place greater expectations on you. At this level of public service, the task is not simply to occupy an office or oversee an institution. It is to make that institution work effectively and ensure that its contribution to the development of Lagos State is clear and measurable,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu maintained that achieving the administration’s Greater Lagos vision required a responsive, efficient and results-oriented public service capable of translating policy objectives into practical outcomes.

“Our vision of a Greater Lagos requires a public service that can translate policies into results. The people of Lagos must be able to see the difference that effective governance makes in their daily lives,” he stated.

He urged the newly appointed officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness and accountability while remaining accessible and responsive to the public.

“I expect you to discharge your duties with integrity, fairness and a strong sense of accountability. Be accessible and responsive in the performance of your functions. Encourage initiative, support collaboration and address administrative challenges with professionalism,” the governor added.

Sanwo-Olu further emphasised the need for collaboration across government institutions, noting that effective coordination and sound administrative practices were essential to achieving the state’s development objectives.

Earlier, the Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, described the appointments as another milestone in the administration’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and improve governance.

Agoro said the selection of the appointees reflected the government’s commitment to meritocracy, professionalism, transparency and accountability in public administration.

“These appointments underscore the commitment of the present administration to meritocracy, professionalism, accountability and transparency. I am confident that the wealth of knowledge and expertise you will bring on board will continue to strengthen our institutional capacity,” he said.

The Head of Service assured the governor that the appointees were prepared to discharge their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state’s public service.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated officials, representatives of the appointees expressed appreciation to Sanwo-Olu for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to discharge their responsibilities diligently.

They promised to uphold the principles of professionalism and accountability while supporting the administration’s development agenda.
