UNILAG announces resumption date, to begin online lectures

The management of University of Lagos, UNILAG has announced January 25 as resumption date for first semester, 2019/2020 academic session.

According to the Revised Academic Calendar for 2019/2020 session made available to our reporter, first semester is expected to commence from January 25th to March 5th 2021 with online lectures.

The first semester exam is planned to commence online with General Studies (GST) from March 8 – 12 while undergraduate exams in all faculties would hold online from March 15-26, 2021. Examinations in core courses in Faculty of education (online) are scheduled to begin from March 29 to April 1, 2021.

The University’s convocation lecture and ceremony has been scheduled to hold from February 23rd to 25th while the first semester is expected to end on April 1, 2021 as the portal would be opened same day for second semester 2019/2020 registration.

The proposed resumption date for second semester is April 12, 2021 when lectures are expected to commence immediately and end on July 16, 2021. Though, it was not indicated whether lecturers would hold physically or online in the second semester. The semester’s exam based on the calendar would commence on July 19 and end on August 14, 2021.

First semester for 2021/2022 academic session is proposed to begin on October, 11, 2021.

The Chairman, UNILAG chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Comrade Dele Ashiru had earlier told our reporter that his members are ready to work only if the University can guarantee their safety and that of the students as well as guarantee a safe and sanitized environment.

He said, “Given the population of students in UNILAG, the level of compliance to COVID-19 protocols is not adequate to bring the students back now.”
