The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports that he is lobbying to become Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, saying no political appointment is required for him to help secure a decisive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Wike, while reaffirming his support for Tinubu’s re election, said his priority remained the delivery of his mandate in the FCT and contributing to the President’s electoral success in Rivers State and the nation’s capital.
The Minister spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, in a statement on Monday.
Reports had listed Wike among prominent APC chieftains and government officials allegedly lobbying for the position of Director General of the President’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

But Wike described the report as false, insisting that he had neither sought the position nor discussed leadership or membership of the campaign council with anyone.
“I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” he said.
The statement came amid growing political preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with attention increasingly focused on the structure and leadership of the APC’s presidential campaign machinery.
Wike said he was currently outside Nigeria, where he was taking a break after spending more than 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new projects and inspecting ongoing projects across the FCT.
“I am outside Nigeria, resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days, commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January, next year,” he said.
He said his focus upon returning to the country would remain on implementing the administration’s development agenda.
“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortune in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike said.
The former Rivers State governor has remained one of the most prominent political figures from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to openly support Tinubu’s re election, despite his continued membership of the PDP.
His political position has attracted considerable attention as the 2027 elections approach, particularly given his influence in Rivers State and his current position as FCT Minister.

Wike’s latest comments therefore appear aimed at drawing a distinction between holding a formal position in the President’s campaign structure and his broader political commitment to Tinubu’s re election.
By declaring that he can contribute to Tinubu’s electoral fortunes without being part of the campaign council, the Minister also sought to put to rest speculation over his alleged interest in controlling or leading the President’s campaign machinery.
For now, Wike said his attention remains on governance and delivering projects in the FCT, while pledging to continue supporting Tinubu’s political fortunes in Rivers State and Abuja.
