Chief Olusegun Osoba and Bisi Akande, former governors of Ogun and Osun states, have organized a conference of South-West presidential hopefuls ahead of the All Progressives Congress primaries.

According to the PUNCH, the conference was organized in order for the South-West to portray a unified face ahead of the presidential primary, as there were now many contestants from the area.

The meeting, slated for Friday, May 6, comes after the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, advised the APC against zoning the 2023 presidential election to the country’s north, saying it would cause a problem.

According to reports, Akeredolu stated in a statement headlined, ‘Our party, APC, must travel the route of equality,’ saying it was the southern region’s time to produce the next president.

According to reports, the conference was called to allow APC stakeholders to lower the number of presidential hopefuls so that the South West would have a greater chance of receiving the APC ticket.

It was further learned that the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and Senator Ibikunle Amosun are among those slated to attend the meeting, which would be held at the Lagos House in Marina, Lagos.

The meeting is anticipated to include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Deputy Senate Leader, Prof Ajayi Boroffice, South-West governors of the APC, and other stakeholders.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (Ogun), former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole (Ogun), Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), APC national leader Bola Tinubu (Lagos), and Nigerian Governors’ Forum Chairman Dr Kayode Fayemi are among the APC South-West aspirants who have declared their interest (Ekiti).
