Dangote Cement Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices, announcing major investments in green logistics, cleaner energy and environmental stewardship as it accelerates efforts to reduce its carbon footprint across Africa.
The company said sustainability remains central to its long-term growth strategy, with initiatives focused on lowering greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, supporting local communities and creating lasting value for stakeholders across its ten African markets.
A key highlight of the company’s latest sustainability drive is the acquisition of an additional 1,500 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, aimed at expanding its low-carbon transportation programme and reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered vehicles.

According to the company, the expansion of its CNG fleet forms part of its broader decarbonisation strategy, helping to lower emissions while improving logistics efficiency across its operations.
Dangote Cement also announced that it has received an upgraded “B” rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its climate and water management performance, reflecting growing international recognition of its environmental initiatives.
The company noted that energy optimisation continues to play a critical role in its operations, with a favourable energy mix contributing to lower production costs while supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Speaking on the company’s sustainability agenda, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Cement Plc, Arvind Pathak, said sustainability is fully integrated into the company’s business model rather than treated as a standalone initiative.
“At Dangote Cement, sustainability is not a standalone initiative; it is embedded in the way we operate, invest and grow. As we expand our footprint across Africa, we remain committed to reducing our environmental impact through cleaner energy sources, improved operational efficiency and innovative logistics solutions such as our growing CNG-powered fleet.”
He added that while cement remains critical to Africa’s infrastructure and economic development, the company is equally committed to ensuring production is carried out responsibly.
“Our responsibility is not only to produce quality cement but to do so in a way that minimises emissions, conserves resources, protects the environment and delivers meaningful benefits to our host communities.”
Beyond environmental sustainability, Dangote Cement said it continues to strengthen corporate governance and inclusion across its operations.
The company disclosed that women now account for 28 per cent of its Board, while directors represent seven different nationalities, reflecting its commitment to diversity and global governance standards.
Dangote Cement also said its sustainability initiatives are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those relating to climate action, responsible industrialisation, economic growth and community development.
