New Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp has insisted that his side can compete with and defeat the world’s best teams despite admitting they do not possess the same calibre of attacking stars as France.

Speaking after his recent appointment as Germany’s national team coach, Klopp urged his players and fans to stop comparing themselves with other football powers and instead focus on building a winning identity.

“When we ask in Germany: Are we as good as France? And the answer is no, that’s not true,” Klopp said.

He added: “The question should be: Do we have players like Dembélé, Mbappé, Doué, Barcola? The answer is no. But we still can beat them.”

Klopp stressed that Germany should avoid obsessing over rivals such as France, Spain and Argentina, arguing that success depends more on identity and collective performance than individual star power.

“It’s not important to look at France, Spain, Argentina. The most important thing is to look at ourselves and how we play football.”

The 58-year-old acknowledged Germany are no longer among the world’s elite but believes the gap can be closed through the right approach.

“We aren’t number one in the world at the moment, that’s true.”

The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager said Germany’s success would depend on its collective style of play rather than individual brilliance.

“There are 11 nations ahead of us in the ranking, but we have to make beating them possible with the way we play football.”

Klopp’s comments come as Germany continue rebuilding after several disappointing performances in recent major tournaments, with the four-time world champions seeking to re-establish themselves among international football’s elite.
