The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered large quantities of vandalised public infrastructure and dismantled a network allegedly involved in the production and use of fake diplomatic and official government number plates.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed the development on Friday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, the recovered items include drainage covers, solar-powered street lights, armoured electricity cables and internet communication cables stolen from different parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Sanusi said the recoveries followed intelligence-led operations and proactive anti-crime patrols carried out across several locations, including Maitama, Garki, Durumi, Jabi, Apo Legislative Quarters, Lugbe and Nyanya.

He identified five suspects arrested in connection with the recovered items as Godwin Aja, Mustapha Nasiru, Ibrahim Garba, Abdulrasheed Sale and Dabarani Mujitafa.
The police commissioner also revealed that investigators uncovered a syndicate allegedly engaged in the illegal production and use of fake diplomatic and official government number plates, describing the operation as a serious security concern.
Sanusi condemned the vandalism of public infrastructure, describing it as economic sabotage with far-reaching consequences for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

He said investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the criminal network and recover additional stolen government assets, while those arrested will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
