The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two long-awaited security surveillance aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and combat kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities across the state.
The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid security response operations in Oyo State and adjoining areas.
Confirming the development, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the arrival of the aircraft marks another milestone in Governor Seyi Makinde’s security agenda.

“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” Oyelade said in a statement issued in Ibadan.
He recalled that Governor Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, disclosed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force’s hangar in Lagos.
According to him, the state government had also assured residents about a week earlier that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.
The commissioner said the surveillance platforms would support security agencies, including the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and other relevant formations in monitoring criminal activities and improving response times across the state.
Governor Makinde was personally on hand at the airport to receive the aircraft.
The Oyo State Government first announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, describing the move as part of a broader strategy to improve the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling emerging security threats.

The arrival of the aircraft comes months after the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to deploying modern aerial surveillance technology to strengthen the fight against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.
The surveillance aircraft are expected to complement existing security architecture by providing real-time aerial intelligence, enhancing coordinated operations and improving the ability of security agencies to respond swiftly to threats across Oyo State.
