#OsunDecides: Adeleke, Wife Cast Votes in Ede

Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election in the state.

Adeleke arrived at Unit 9, Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area at about 8:39am, where he completed the accreditation process before receiving his ballot paper and voting.

His wife, Titilola Adeleke, also cast her vote shortly after the governor.

The election is largely shaping up as a two horse contest between Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, although 15 political parties are fielding candidates in the election.

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and transparent election and protect the will of the electorate.

The Nigeria Police Force has also imposed a 12 hour restriction on movement across the state, which commenced at midnight and will end at 6pm on Saturday.

Osun State has 2,339,233 registered voters, according to figures released by INEC, with 1,906,390 having collected their Permanent Voter Cards, representing 81.50 per cent of registered voters.

The remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, have been deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria, in line with INEC’s established procedure.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, said the commission was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election.

Osogbo has the largest number of registered voters in the state, with 167,704, representing 7.17 per cent of the total electorate. It is followed by Ife East with 128,515 voters, while Olorunda has 123,063 and Ife Central 122,454.

Iwo has 106,813 registered voters, while Irewole and Ifelodun have 96,528 and 94,870 respectively.

INEC’s figures show that almost half of the state’s registered voters are concentrated in 10 of its 30 local government areas.

Fifteen political parties are participating in Saturday’s governorship election.

They include Adeleke of the Accord Party; Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC); Oyebamiji of the APC; Farinloye Olarenwaju of the Action Alliance; Esan Olajide of the African Action Congress; Adeagbo Opawoye of the African Democratic Party; Mustapha Adeniyi of the Social Democratic Party; and Adesina Aseyemi Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Others are Adewale Adebayo of the Allied Peoples Movement, Clement Adesuyi of the Action Peoples Party, Masilo Adeleke of the Boot Party, Taofeek Adeleke of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Saliu Oyelami of the Peoples Redemption Party, Ogunsakin Olalekan of the Young Progressives Party and Adefemi Adesuyi of the Zenith Labour Party.

The three leading candidates, Adeleke, Oyebamiji and the ADC candidate, recently presented their manifestoes at a town hall meeting organised by ARISE NEWS.

Adeleke is campaigning on his five point agenda reloaded, while Oyebamiji has branded his programme the Prosperity Agenda.
